Need for therapy?
- Depressed or anxious?
- Worries at work or feeling burned out?
- Relationship issues or past traumas?
- Experiencing difficulties as an international living abroad?
- Want to feel more in control of your life and your emotions?
- Need support and motivation to get where you want to be in life?
- Do you just want to get things off your chest with a professional supporting you?
- Are you frustrated with the accessibility challenges of government-provided mental health services and want to get help on your own terms and skip the waiting period?
The challenges and circumstances my clients come to me with are diverse. Support can be sought to unload and overcome past traumas, in the middle of a crisis, or proactively to prevent future burnouts. I try to make therapy easily approachable and reach people who have struggled with starting therapy and finding an open-minded therapist suitable for their needs. I hope that taking care of one's mental well-being wouldn't be stigmatized by our societies and the approach to mental health could be more like our approach to dental health. Many of us would consider it a red flag if someone declared: "I have never been to a dentist nor will I! I'm not the kind of person who has dental issues and I don't think seeing a dentist could benefit me in any way". I find it confusing that statements regarding mental health are more socially acceptable. The way I see it, mental well-being more commonly holds people back from reaching their full potential than dental health does (not to devalue dental healthcare at all!)
Working internationally excludes the therapy I offer from being covered by most insurances. There is no international license for a psychologist to practice with, so regardless of my education, I work unlicensed as an international psychologist. This makes it more possible for me to offer affordable fees and shorter waiting periods and enables access to therapy without a doctor's referral. Put simply, I work "outside the system" and offer therapy to people who think this is the fit for their needs. I also don't like to diagnose people, as I think that in some cases a diagnoses are more stigmatizing and pathologizing than therapeutic. This does not mean that getting a diagnosis wouldn't be beneficial and necessary in some cases, for example for receiving medication. If I estimate a diagnosis could be beneficial I will guide to the national healthcare system.
I also offer mediation for intimate conflicts. I aim to assist you in negotiating jointly acceptable constructive resolutions for a more peaceful future. These sessions can also be applied as a short-term couples' therapy.
I offer therapy in English and Finnish. The therapy schedule can be tailored to fit your needs: we can meet as often and as long as you find it helpful. I'll send an invoice for three sessions at a time, so you don't need to commit for longer than that.
